Our understanding of mission is guided by MissionRespekt—“Christian Witness in a Multireligious World.” We are aware of the often difficult and guilt-ridden history of Christian mission. We share the principles of respect, solidarity, and acting in love described in the ecumenical document MissionRespekt – “Christian Witness in a Multireligious World.”
Regarding the relationship between Christianity and Judaism, we endorse Basic Article I.12 of the Constitution of the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia:
1 It acknowledges and recalls that God’s promise to His people Israel remains valid: God cannot regret His gifts and calling. 2 It recognizes its obligation to share in the journey of the Jewish people. 3 Therefore, it attaches special importance to its relationship with the Jewish people in both life and teaching, and recalls the Church’s complicity in the exclusion and annihilation of Jewish life. 4 It remains united with the Jewish people as it listens to God’s guidance and hopes for the fulfillment of God’s kingdom.
